Israel offers permanent peace in Gaza
Israel has proposed a permanent ceasefire in Gaza in exchange for the release of all hostages held by the Palestinian armed group Hamas. This information was reported today, Thursday (September 19), by the Israeli media outlet 'Kan Public Broadcaster.'
According to Israel's proposal, if Hamas releases its hostages, the organization's chief leader Yahya Sinwar will also be given the opportunity to exit Gaza safely. The proposal includes not only a ceasefire but also the release of several hundred Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails. Gal Hirsch, Israel's chief negotiator for the hostage agreement, stated that this new proposal was raised during meetings with U.S. officials last week. The proposal has been referred to as a 'safe exit agreement' and 'Plan B.'Meanwhile, according to an Israeli official, the issue of the hostages' lives has been taken seriously in these discussions. In his words, “We want to propose something that will allow for the swift release of the hostages. However, the condition is that Yahya Sinwar will leave Gaza and Hamas will cease hostilities. This would make it possible to achieve the objectives of the war, and the leaders of Hamas would be able to leave Gaza safely.”
However, it is also believed that Hamas cannot place much trust in Israel's previous proposals. This is because Hamas is not assured that Israel will not resume aggression after all hostages are released.
