School student killed by stabbing in China

A student has been killed in a knife attack near a Japanese school in southern China. The 10-year-old boy was fatally stabbed on his way to class on Wednesday (September 18). This information was reported by CNN on Thursday (September 19), citing Japan's Foreign Minister.

According to China's Foreign Ministry, the boy was attacked by an individual approximately 200 meters away from the gate of the Japanese school in Shenzhen. In connection with the incident, a 44-year-old suspect has been detained at the scene and taken into custody, the city's police stated in a press release. Japanese and Chinese authorities have not confirmed the nationality of the deceased boy. However, according to information on the website, Japanese nationality is required for enrollment at the Shenzhen Japanese School.

On Thursday, Japan's Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa told reporters, "It is truly regrettable that such a heinous act occurred on a child's way to school." Chinese authorities have not yet commented on the motive behind the attack. However, recent reports from China's state media have indicated a rise in nationalism, xenophobia, and anti-Japanese sentiment in the country. Earlier, in June, a Chinese individual in Suzhou, eastern China, injured a Japanese woman and her child by stabbing them in front of a school bus. In the incident, a bus driver was killed while trying to intervene against the assailant. Source: CNN
